The Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society announced the re-election of our country, for the third consecutive time, as a member of the United Nations Committee for the Elimination of All forms of racial discrimination.
This re-election took place on Thursday June 22, 2023, during the 30th session of the representatives of the States having acceded to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

A press release issued on Thursday, by the Commission, indicated that this important diplomatic success in the field of human rights represents for our country a new stone added to the building of achievements and successes in this area, in accordance with the program of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

The press release is worded as follows:

With the grace and help of Allah, on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, our country was re-elected, for the third consecutive time, as a member of the United Nations Committee on elimination of racial discrimination, represented by Mr. Fadhili Ould Rayes, Judge and Legal Expert.

The re-election of Mauritania as a member of this committee, initiated in 2015 and renewed in 2019, took place within the framework of the 30th session of Member States to the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, held , Thursday, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is a United Nations body composed of independent experts, monitoring the implementation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination by Member States.

Mauritania acceded to this convention on December 13, 1988, thus becoming one of the first Member States to have ratified it.

It has become accustomed to submitting a periodic report to this Committee, where it is represented by a multispectral technical committee which prepares reports related to the execution of the provisions of the aforementioned agreement.

This important diplomatic success in the field of human rights constitutes for our country a new stone added to the edifice of the achievements and successes recently obtained in this field, in accordance with the program of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.

On this occasion, we, within the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights, Humanitarian Action and Relations with Civil Society, are happy to congratulate all actors in the field of human rights, affirm our determination to to move forward in consolidating this important achievement, and to continue positive engagement with the various committees related to international treaties and mechanisms for the promotion and protection of human rights”.
