On 13 July, 2023 Mr. Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, participated in the work of the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), held in Nairobi. This session is a prelude to the fifth biannual coordination meeting between the African Union, regional economic communities, and regional mechanisms.

The two-day session discussed agenda items, including the report of the 46th ordinary session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives, held from 18 June to 10 July 2023, in addition to the discussion and approval of the AU draft budget for 2024.

The Executive Council has also discussed the reports of its commissions and the reports of the various specialized commissions.

The Ministerial Committee in charge of African candidatures within the international system is one of the most important among these committees held its meeting during this session. Mauritania occupies the post of vice president of this important committee.
